Next to it was deboned deskinned chicken thighs.

I couldn’t figure out if it was more depressing to serve the gross veggie burgers, or thighs with the skin and bones off for someone who just wants to inhale meat slankets.

PS, MIKE FUCKING CHEESE!?

Yes.
I have never been to In N Out, and I love pickles.

I am staying in tonight in SF besides maybe running out to In N Out to fix that lil problem, so ask me some questions. I will entertain Munoz style “feelings” questions but preferably questions could be in food format, or my feelings about technology unleashed at Google I/O, or some combination of the two ie “Why has no one invented a food peripheral for your computer where you can just plug in cheeseburgers?”

Cheeseburgers are on my mind because I ate some last night and watched the Trailer Park Boys movies back to back for the last two nights.

*furthermore, it turns out, I’m having lunch with Mike Cheese tomorrow.

Audio

whpkrecordlibrary:

I would buy one- but therein lies the problem, the scope of demand outweighs the supply the two teachers are capable of fulfilling, and therefore they’re selling the design to someone else to generate at a later date. That part of the equation I totally get.

They are making a limited number, which is just a prism glued to a fixed-flexible snake housing, affixed to a clamp. The only thing being made is a custom prism, and the little metal prism holder, the rest bolts together.

In the backer section, they advertise the ability to get “news of the commercial version being made” for 1-2$ in donation. I was a bit confused because why would anyone pay a buck to hear about the ability to buy something in the future. Would I pay a buck to hear when I can next buy a beer? What work am I paying for? I really don’t think paying someone to give them my email address should be an acceptable policy.

So, I wrote them. Here is their reply.

Hi Matt,

Thanks much for your interest.

The NeoLucida is a provocation whose purpose is to prompt discussion about art history, and to help people understand drawing in a whole new way. We have not conceived this project as a business. We don’t want to run a business, and (as unexpected as this might sound) we’re really not doing this to make money. Likewise, Kickstarter is not a store — and the folks who have supported our provocation, who will also happen to receive NeoLucidas as their reward for doing so, are not (per se) “customers”.

As we said earlier, a $1 donation is a support for our efforts, and will help make our next steps more economically feasible. We genuinely hope that you find this to be worth something in itself. But to sweeten the pot, the ‘reward’ for such a $1 donation is (A) that you will receive all of our private and exclusive updates about the progress of our project; (B) that you will be among the first people to be informed when additional devices become available; and (C) that you will be put on a waiting list, so that you can be among the first people to get one of these devices.

We are now entering an unexpected new phase in which we face the new costs of managing how the project is handed off. We want to do it right, and this takes time and research. A $1 or $2 donation will help support this. As a final side benefit, we’ll be able to… hand off the project so that someone else can make additional units. That’s something that we might not do otherwise. Believe me, we have seriously discussed just producing the 2500 and leaving it there.

You certainly don’t have to support our project with a $1 or $2 donation. And if you like, you are welcome to follow us for free on Twitter or Facebook, where we will also post news from time to time.

Hope this is clear, and thanks again for your interest. Golan & Pablo

The problem is art. Apparently, they aren’t selling these, they are “provocating” them, and they’re not being sold to customers, but some other linguistic twist on “customers.” Artists treating business as art, I have worked for these people before and its a nightmare, because they don’t see why business has its own language.

I get it. I’m around a lot of artists. I’ve made “art.” I’ve seen far worse executions of grandiose self-masturbatory language.

There’s a great potential to make a beautiful, functional product here and they’ve taken that opportunity out behind a shed and shot it in the face, and are charging a dollar admission to listen around the corner to them whispering how terrible it is.

What is the strangest to me is after the fact that they complained they both spent 350$ on original camera lucidas and showed these beautiful brass objects that fit nicely into a tiny case, they whip out this slapdash thing with no design to it.

For 30$, yes, utilitarian, great. The 250$ version you might expect to, I don’t know, be a little foldable thing perhaps someone with more exacting requirements of a camera lucida might use, such as the ability to be fixed low to the table, a zoom, I don’t know. No, you just get a fancy box.

Non-tech civilians try out the occulus rift

Non-tech civilians try out the occulus rift

Support for Danny, Alyssa, Ada and Reagan

Support for Danny, Alyssa, Ada and Reagan:
The big fire Wednesday morning took out Danny and Alyssa’s home, and everything in it (thankfully not the girls).
